Profile

Richard was called to the bar in 2001 having spent 7 years practising as a Solicitor in criminal law and gaining higher rights in 1999.

In relation to CRIMINAL LAW Richard is regularly instructed in high profile cases.  He has undertaken numerous murders, high profile drugs and money laundering cases, along with fraud.

Richard is very used to dealing with detailed analysis of complicated cases and regularly does so for the Department of Work and Pensions.

He is often instructed in heavyweight multi-handed cases and is used to leading junior members of Chambers in such cases.

Richard has Court experience of being led by Queen’s Counsel and gives specific reference to a case that reached the headlines in 2008.  It was the case of Karen Mathews, the high profile child abduction case where it was in fact proved by the jury that the Defendant along with the abducted child’s uncle had in fact carried out the act of kidnap/abduction and had presumably done so for monetary gain.

Richard is therefore very used to dealing with voluminous cases.  He has a practice of advising upon cases within days of receipt of papers and maintains tight control on the case from start to finish.

Regulatory

In respect of regulatory work Richard is experienced in dealing with health and safety, trading standards, environmental and licensing, acting for both sides of the argument namely the Prosecution and the Defence in each regard.

Family/Childcare Law

Richard also practises in all areas of family law including private law through to public law proceedings dealing with of course care, handling all hearings from start to finish in relation to those proceedings and in particular has a specialism for child abuse allegations within the public law setting.

Matrimonial Finance

Richard deals with all aspects of ancillary relief hearings, dealing with all stages from FDA, FDR, and of course contested final hearings.
