Criminal law He deals with the broad spectrum of criminal cases from arson to witness intimidation with particular specialisms in drugs, sex and violence allegations. He has been junior to many different Q.C's in the matters of, for example, murder, attempted murder, multiple and violent rape allegations and the mass importation of drugs. John has acted on behalf of clients appealing against both conviction and sentence at the Criminal Court of Appeal.
He has been a Grade 4 prosecutor since 1989. He has advised and conducted firearms cases for West Yorkshire Police since 1984 and for other Police forces since 1990.
Major cases include the Hillsborough Disaster Inquiry (police responsibilities and discipline).
Also John focuses on inquests being appointed as deputy coroner from time to time in other areas to conduct lengthy and complex cases. He is available to receive instructions to represent Chief Constables, individual police officers, public bodies as well as families in respect of hearings outside the North Yorkshire Western District jurisdiction.
Ancillary Relief John also undertakes all aspects of work involving matrimonial finance, including ancillary relief cases where there are substantial assets, businesses, trusts and pensions.
