David worked as an Outdoor/Criminal Law Clerk for several firms of Solicitors in the Midlands, Kent and Surrey from 1974-1988. Between 1988 and 2002 David worked for several firms of Solicitors dealing with family law and qualified firstly as a Legal Executive and then as a Solicitor.

In 2002 David was appointed Senior Solicitor at Doncaster MBC dealing with childcare matters.  Then in 2005 until he was called to the Bar he was employed as Principle Solicitor at North Lincolnshire Council dealing with Childcare, Adult Services and Education Law.
