Business & Employment
The Business & Employment Law Team at 37 Park Square is one of the largest in Chambers. Its barristers have a wealth of experience in courts and tribunals, and between them provide the full range of advocacy, advisory and drafting services in both contentious and non-contentious matters.
Barristers in the Business & Employment Law Team advise and represent both employers and employees in all forms of employment cases, including:-
• Unfair and wrongful dismissal
• Discrimination (of all forms, including sex, race, age, disability, sexual orientation and religious beliefs)
• Injunctions and restrictive covenants
• Breach of contract
• Equal pay, maternity rights and flexible working
• Directors’ responsibilities,
• Minimum wage and working time regulations
All Barrister members of Business & Employment Law Team accept instructions to advise on employment law matters on paper and in conference, and are willing to conduct conferences at solicitors’ offices or clients’ premises as well as in Chambers.
The Barristers of the team also welcome telephone queries from instructing solicitors on an ad hoc and informal basis on employment law matters, and there is usually at least one member of the team available in Chambers to deal with such queries. Similarly, any such queries can be made by email to Employment@no37.co.uk. The team also has significant collective experience in providing seminars, updates and training to local Law Societies, Local Authorities, individual firms and so on. Any enquiries in respect of training should be made to the above email address or to Leigh Royall, the Senior Clerk, or Donna Gaughan, the Senior Civil Clerk. Leigh and Donna will also deal with any general enquiries.
Following recent changes in the law, barristers are now able to accept instructions directly from members of the public. Most members of the team are licensed by the Bar Council to receive instructions under the Public Access Scheme, and the team has a history of providing pragmatic, efficient and cost-effective advice. In addition to instructions given in respect of proceedings (whether actual or intimated), the team is frequently asked to advise in respect of disciplinary or organisational matters and the like that are in the process of being resolved. We have found that this service is of particular interest to small and medium sized enterprises and individuals. Any enquiries relating to Business & Employment Law should be made to DirectAccess@no37.co.uk.
